20 TB of capacity with a reinvented HDD

Reinventing HDDs to

Keep Up with Data Growth Hyperscale cloud, CSP, enterprise, smart video surveillance partners, NAS vendors and many others need storage solutions to keep pace with the exponential growth of data generation . For large-scale, cost-effective data storage, HDDs remain a strategic choice. HDDs provide the capacity, performance and reliability you need to store large amounts of data, now and in the future. Investments in HDD technology continue to play a central role in supporting global data growth.

Western Digital has developed OptiNAND ™ technology for flash memory optimized drives, integrating leading NAND flash technology with our brand's exclusive HDDs. Western Digital HDDs lead the way in area density with industry-first energy-assisted magnetic recording (EAMR), three-stage actuator (TSA), HelioSeal® and now, OptiNAND technologies. Higher areal density equals higher capacities to meet storage challenges.

20 TB HDD with OptiNAND technology

OptiNAND integrates iNAND®, an Embedded Flash Drive (EFD) on Universal Flash Storage (UFS) with traditional rotating media, introducing innovative changes to the algorithm and firmware system-on-a-chip (SoC). OptiNAND is not a hybrid technology. The unit works smarter thanks to optimized firmware algorithms that leverage expanded metadata downloaded to iNAND, enabling more tracks per inch (TPI), which results in higher areal density.

The DC HC560 Ultrastar, applying the capabilities of OptiNAND technology for the first time, offers an unrivaled capacity of 20TB on a 9-disk platform (2.2TB / disk) with CMR recording format.
